Remedies for removing stains

It’s best if you treat the stains immediately. For most of the stains there are natural and home remedies, that are both very effective and zero waste. Similar, you’ll find plenty of products in the supermarket. Have in mind, they might not be organic and very sustainable options. This time we are trying a vegan bar soap for removing stains. We might as well try some other remedies if that doesn’t help. Check out the step by step guide below.

A Step by Step Guide

Below you’ll find a step by step guide for an easy way for how to treat stains. These steps are similar for most type of stains. There are variations in ingredients depending on the type of garment and fabric. Meanwhile, we are testing a vegan bar soap for removing stains on a pair of trousers messed with ketchup sauce. See the results below. Let’s see if the bar soap helps and if not, what will.

#1 - Act fast

Try to act as fast as possible. Remove the excess sauce from the fabric using a clean knife or spoon. In this case, I saw the stain on the trousers little too late. The next day I got the vegan soup bar for stains to try to save them.

A pair of white trousers with a ketchup stain.

#2 - Prepare

To pre-treat the stains use stain removers. They may come as bar or liquid soaps, as well as sticks. Also, you’ll need some cold water in the case of ketchup stain. Feel free to soak the garment in cold water before you use the stain remover. I’ll be trying the vegan bar soap for stain treatment by Frosch.

Setting

I prepared for treating the garment outdoors. It’s best to treat the stains with a natural light.

Stain remover

The Frosch bar soap for satin removal is purely vegetable based, making it a vegan product. It says that it’s safe to use on all textiles, white, colored and delicates. And it supposed to remove various stains such as fat, oil, sauce, blood and grease.

Water

Besides the soap bar, you’ll need some cool clean water.

#3 - Pre-treat

To start, damped the soap in cool water. Apply the dampen bar soap on the stained spot. It’s best to make circular motions. Though, be gentle and don’t agitate the fabric. You can also use a small brush. Take a look if the stain completely disappeared. If not, treat it again. If it haven’t completely vanished, it’s okay. The next step is to wash it. Also, you can apply the leftover soaped water on the stained spot as well. Like this the garment is prepared to be machine washed.

Dampen the soap in cool water and then apply in on the stain. Use gentle circular movements. You may use a small brush if needed.

#4 - Wash

Depending on the type of fabric and garment machine wash or hand-wash the garment. Check the label and follow their guides. In this case I selected the delicate cycle. Nonetheless, the temperature is 30 degrees and the laundry is washed for no more than half an hour. I used a mild detergent for delicates.

Tip #1 - Baking Soda

Since the laundry was white I also added little baking soda. Just a table spoon. It works as a whitener.

#5 - Check the result

Well, after you’ve washed the garment it’s best to check if the pre-treatment and the washing cleaned the stain. In my case it didn’t, unfortunately. Maybe the washing cycle wasn’t suitable. However the stain was still there. So I decided to try other natural remedies. I simply squeezed a dozen or drops or so. Then I let the juice soak in for a while. Afterward, I washed the garments again this time on eco-cycle. This one takes an hour and the temperature is again 30 degrees.

Tip #2 - Lemon juice

Try lemon juice. Simply squeeze a dozen of drops or so. Then let it soak in for a while.

#6 - Save the garment

Ultimately, the lemon juice made the stain disappear completely. Sometimes, the first try won’t be successful. But, that just means that you should try again. Like this, you will take care and wear your garments for longer time. These days, there are many stain removers out there. For sure, you can find something suitable to treat the stains on your garments. Furthermore, there are many natural remedies as well. And finally, there are ingredients that you may have at home. Sometimes, you have to combine remedies to get the results and prolong the life-cycle of the garment. It’s definitely worth trying.

Voila, the trousers are saved and can be worn again!

Tip #3 - Experiment

Sometimes, you have to combine few remedies  to get the results and prolong the life-cycle of the garment.
