 10 Questions

 Kim Goes Eko

Digital activist for sustainability and colorful thinking

 Fashion & Social Entrepreneurship

Kim is such an inspirational change agent. She is a brilliant example of what fashion should be today. Translating what sustainable fashion is. She does that thorough her way of being. Taking fashion by storm and she doesn't even know it. Her efforts are exactly what is necessary for driving sustainability forward within the fashion industry and society. In the short Q&A below she shares about why she's chosen sustainability within fashion. However you'll be surprised to hear about her relationship with poetry too. You'll read and see what I am talking about in  the words and imagery below...

1.Why sustainability?

K: It should be common sense to everyone with the intellect to reflect on more than just the own ego. Seriously, most people on this planet have the intellectual capacity to understand how wrong we’re behaving and yet, they don’t act. So here is me, a slightly grumpy but otherwise positive individual that wants to share her journey of being a sustainable human.

"If there wouldn’t be polluted cities and dusty skies, all humans on this planet would have equal access to the sky. Imagine that!"

2. Why fashion within sustainability?

K: It was quite an emotional memory. My grandma used to work in fashion retail and always dressed me up in kindergarten. Clothes were important for the Sunday walks of our family and this upbringing left an impact. And back in the days, it used to be my personal number three expense after rent and groceries. I was getting much pleasure of shopping until I understood how bad it is to our environment. That’s why I tapped into this cruel industry and its impact.

3. Entrepreneurship & sustainability?

K: The world isn’t ready yet to acknowledge change-makers for their positive impact on the planet and people. Impact measurement is still less appreciated than having financial gains and making profit.

"Always niche yourself and try to become an expert early on."

4. How important is collaboration to you?

K: The most important and joyful mode of making business. I love working with others as this is an easy way to broaden my horizon, learn from each other and also reach a wider audience. It’s the future.

5. Career advice in sustainability?

K: Always niche yourself. Sustainability is not yet an industry for itself, so it’s a competitive market. I’m super excited to see so many people with the heart in the right place (and to not forget the needed skills and drive), but we’re lacking positions. Hence, you should always niche yourself and try to become an expert early on. Didn’t really work for me, but that’s why I’m telling ya!

6. What's on at the moment?

K: I’m part of NEONYT and Prepeek, the sustainable conference and showrooms of Berlin fashion week. And besides that, I’m proud to announce that I will somewhat be engaged at Helsinki Fashion Week too. I can’t tell you more at this point in time, but I’ll update all on my socials :)

7. Near future plans?

K: I don’t make yearly plans but instead go a lot with my intuition. The summer will be beautiful, so I hope I will manage to enjoy it a little but, before jumping into the next big project.

8. Yellow?

K: It’s indeed my favorite color. It’s positive, vibrant and a bit quirky. Not many people enjoy wearing it, so I have more options for myself hehe.

 9. Poetry?

K: I started writing poetry in 2017 and quickly after launched my first collection within a downloadable eBook. Words are exciting and finding the right one’s is like playing sudoku to others. I get hyped on it!

10. Something you are excited about?

K: Well, except for playing with words, I enjoy having the privilege to watch the sunset. That’s another random fact that’s unrelated to fashion. But it’s a fascinating phenomenon of our planet. Each day, most of us have the honor to watch the (yellow) sun slowly sink down into the horizon, while the sky turns into soft pink and apricot. If there wouldn’t be polluted cities and dusty skies, all humans on this planet would have equal access to the sky. Imagine that!
